Biography
Kumu Ida Veimau is a respected kumu (teacher) of Polynesian dance & Hula. Born and raised in San Mateo, California, as the eldest of five children, she is of German and Tongan ancestry and was brought up in an environment that fostered her passion for sports and the performing arts. In 1997, Veimau and her husband, Siaosi "Sia" Veimau, founded the San Diego-based Polynesian dance halau (school), Kaliloa O Kaleo'onalani. The family-run school, where she and her daughter Victoria Veimau lead, specializes in traditional Hula, Tahitian, and Tongan dances. Through her various endeavors, Kumu Ida Veimau continues to build a legacy rooted in family, culture, and community. She uses her platforms to uplift her heritage, share her knowledge as a dedicated mentor and educator, and empower others in her community.
