Biography

Hey everyone! My name is Clara and I’m a 4th year Theatre Major at UCSD. I’m originally from SLC, Utah (not Mormon, I know you were curious) and I moved here for a fresh start in 2021. Art-wise, I began as a ballet dancer, but the cutthroat culture and perpetuated body image struggles pushed me to transition into other styles. I performed with my high school’s dance company, and thus got involved in musicals. I’ve sought out chances to sing (quite poorly I fear), act, and dance ever since.

After my first year here, I felt disappointed with my “college experience,” and chose to study abroad in London at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and on the West End. There, my fervor for performance art was reignited and I was taught that there is opportunity literally everywhere. It wasn’t until my 3rd year here that I discovered all the dozens of ways to get involved in performance just here at UCSD. I want to help others escape that pitfall: of finding answers later and reckoning with the fact that you sort of missed out.

Company 157, New Directions, the Wagner Festival, Muir Musical, TTV, Senior Labs, Backstage and Playbill Casting Calls, LJP, Coronado Playhouse, Moonlight, Individual Projects — there is so much work to do if you know the right people to ask and the right places to look. Cultivating those relationships can be so difficult, and I hope to be a valuable resource for you.

I am by no means fully informed about every organization or project in San Diego, but I can absolutely be a middleman to get you in contact with someone who is. Two other things I feel a specific personal connection to: 1. Financial struggles/working constantly while navigating paying for college, and 2. Communication with connections you hope to make (writing emails of interest, nailing your resume, catering cover letters, headshot hookup, etc.).
