Theatre
Majoring in Theatre
The Theatre major provides students with a solid artistic and academic background. The required lower-division courses equip the student with the skills and knowledge necessary for more advanced study in each of the areas of study. The major is structured so
that it can respond both to the needs of students who seek a broad-based "liberal arts" education in theatre or to the needs of students who plan to pursue their studies at the graduate level with the aim of acquiring either an MFA or PhD degree.
At least 50 percent of all required course work in theatre must be taken at UCSD. All required courses must be taken for a letter grade. No course for which a student earns a grade lower than C- can be counted as satisfying any of the department's graduation requirements.

Minoring in Theatre
The Theatre minor provides students an opportunity to explore their area of interest in acting, directing, playwriting, history, stage management and/or design. Several Theatre and Dance undergraduate productions are held each year giving students the chance to perform on stage and/or assist in these productions. These productions are performed in our Theatre District, which is shared with the Tony award-winning La Jolla Playhouse. The Theatre minor consists of seven theatre courses, one of which is Practicum. It is recommended that students declare the theatre minor as soon as possible as priority enrollment in the Practicums is given to majors and minors.
Minors can be declared online at TritonLink. No audition required. All courses taken for the minor must be taken for a letter grade and only grades of “C-“ or better will be accepted.

Performance and Production
Opportunities in Theatre Productions
We stage three productions a quarter in our Theatre District which is shared with Tony award-winning La Jolla Playhouse. One production a quarter is held specifically for our undergraduate actors. In addition, undergraduates have the opportunity to audition for graduate shows, including those directed by prestigious guest artists. Students interested in design, stage management, and/or directing also have the opportunity to assist in these productions.
Studio Projects
Students have the opportunity throughout the academic year to do a studio project to showcase their own interests or work created. Students interested in doing a studio project should meet with the Undergraduate Coordinator.
