Director's Statement 

We’ve all been forced to come to terms with who we become in a crisis over the past year. Are you someone who hopes for the best and gets disappointed? Are you someone who assumes the worst and is pleasantly surprised? Did you put your faith in science or in leaders? How many rolls of toilet paper are you still trying to get through? End Days by Keiko Green forces us to reckon with the side of us that kicks in when we think we’re under attack. It is a darkly comedic, genre-bending adult animation about the horrors of late-stage capitalism. Young adult retail employees in a dead-end job have to band together to survive a corporate-sponsored apocalyptic being. Wimps become heroes. Leaders become followers. And everyone has to answer the question, “Will Corporate save us, or do we have to learn to save ourselves?”

About the Playwright

Keiko Green is a playwright, performer, and second year MFA Playwriting student at UC San Diego. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia to a bilingual household (Japanese and English). She received her BFA from NYU's Tisch School with a focus on Experimental Theatre. Keiko lived in Seattle for six years, where she is a Core Company Member at ACT Theatre and a former member of the Seattle Repertory Theatre's Writers' Group. In 2017, her play "Nadeshiko" won the Gregory Award for Outstanding New Play, as well as landing on the Honorable Mentions for the national Kilroys List. At Annex Theatre, she wrote the book and lyrics for the musical “Bunnies," as well as the Comic Con show "Puny Humans," co-written with Bret Fetzer. Her plays have been developed with support from the Kennedy Center, National New Play Network, ACT Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and the Playwrights Realm. She was a finalist for both the Many Voices and Jerome Fellowships at the Playwrights Center. As an actor, Keiko has performed at the Denver Center of Performing Arts, Seattle Repertory Theatre, ACT Theatre, and the National Asian American Theatre Company among others. Keiko's original work focuses on marginalized voices, specifically spinning narratives to centralize characters that are usually plot devices.

About the Director

Cast Bios

Leovina Charles (Tiff) is a first-year MFA student. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she discovered her love for acting at a young age, making her professional theatre debut as Young Nala in The Lion King on Broadway. Graduating summa cum laude from Howard University with a BFA in Musical Theatre, Leovina is also an alumna of The Maggie Flanigan Studio’s 2-year Meisner Conservatory, and has studied at the British American Drama Academy (BADA) in Oxford, England. UC San Diego credits: Town Hall; Select credits: Ismene in I Am Antigone (Theatre for a New City), Clytemnestra in Oresteia (BADA), Young Brooklyn in Brooklyn (Howard University), and Passing Strange (Howard University).

Vanessa Flores (Ana) is an undergraduate transfer Theater and Dance student. San Diego City College credits: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Ensemble), Heathers: The Musical (Ensemble, Heathers U/S), Just Like Us (Yadira). UC San Diego credit: Man in Love. 

Henry Greenberg (Shane/Randall) is a second-year MFA Acting student. Henry originally hails from Nashville, TN, got his undergraduate degree in theatre performance at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and has spent the past four years working in Chicago and Dallas Ft./Worth as an actor, while also serving as the literary manager for A Red Orchid Theatre. UC San Diego Credits: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Heap, Ironbound. Recent credits include The Undeniable Sound of Right Now (Raven Theatre) Masque Macabre (Strawdog Theatre), Buried Child (Writers Theatre), Cyrano (BoHo Theatre) Ideation (Jackalope Theatre, Jeff Nomination for Best Ensemble), The Feast (Red Theater), Wastwater (Steep Theatre), The Diary of Anne Frank (Metropolis Arts), Lord of the Flies, The Spark (WaterTower Theatre) and Mr. Burns, a post-electric play (Stage West). Henry couldn’t be more thrilled to be amongst the good people of San Diego.

Abby Leigh Huffstetler (Jessie) is a first-year MFA student. She holds a BFA in Performing Arts from SCAD: The University for Creative Careers. Her post-graduate training has earned her certifications in five weapons within The Society of American Fight Directors, recognizing her achievements as an Actor Combatant. UC San Diego credits: Uncle Vanya. Regional credits: How to Defend Yourself (Humana Festival of New American Plays, Actors Theatre of Louisville); Dracula, The Many Deaths of Nathan Stubblefield (Actors Theatre of Louisville); Free Free Free Free (Exponential Festival); Noises Off (Rome Little Theatre). Film credits: Dirt, CBGB. Huffstetler is a former Actors Theatre Professional Training Company Acting Apprentice.

Sabrina Liu (Candace/Joey) is a first-year MFA student. She is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and holds a BA in Government and Psychology with minors in Inequality Studies and Theatre from Cornell University. UC San Diego credits: Town Hall. Cornell credits: The Wolves, Tartuffe, The Awakening of Spring, Bad Jews, Baltimore, Eurydice, Two Truths and Allie, The Devil's Pink Cloak (staged reading), and The Wrong Place: Or, How Not to Write a Play About the Rohingya Genocide (staged reading).

Ursula Meyer (Fran) has studied voice with Cicily Berry, Patsy Rodenburg, Andrew Wade, Arthur Lessac and Kristen Linklater. She graduated from the Advanced Voice Studies Program at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London and is a designated Linklater Teacher. Before coming to UC San Diego, she taught Voice/Speech and Text at the UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, University of Washington, and four years at the Yale School of Drama. As a professional Voice and Accent Coach, Meyer has worked at numerous regional theatres including the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, South Coast Repertory Theatre, Yale Repertory Theatre, the La Jolla Playhouse, and the Idaho, Santa Cruz, Utah, and Oregon Shakespeare Festivals where she has been working off and on since 1985. As a professional actress, she has worked extensively in regional theatre, including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, A.C.T. Seattle, the Seattle Repertory Theatre, the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, and the La Jolla Playhouse. In 2007, she was a recipient of UC San Diego’s Saltman Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award.

Morgan Scott (Ike/Derek) is a first-year MFA student. He is from Chicago, IL, but grew up in Montgomery County Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. He holds a B.A. in Theatre from The University of Maryland. UC San Diego Credits: Uncle Vanya.  Andrew Lynch (Sound Designer) is a third-year MFA candidate and composer previously based in Brooklyn, NY. UC San Diego credits: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, An Object, Screaming (MFA Dance), Elektra, Duchess! Duchess! Duchess! (WNPF ‘19), The Misanthrope (ASD), A Beautiful Day in November on the Banks of the Greatest of the Great Lakes (ASD). Other select credits: Calafia at Liberty with the Wetsuit Collective (LJP’s WOW Festival); Leap and the Net Will Appear presented by New Georges (Flea Theatre) in the summer of 2019. He is a co-founder of the Brooklyn arts space Cloud City, and co-artistic director of the physical theatre company 3 Sticks.

Allison Bailey (Production Stage Manager) is a second-year MFA student. Originally from Iowa, she earned her BA in Political Science with minors in Theatre Arts and French from Coe College. Following graduation, she taught in Bulgaria and then worked in community outreach in Vermont, where she also freelanced as a technician and stage manager. UC San Diego credits: Town Hall (PSM), winterWorks ‘21 (PSM), As You Like It (PSM), Orestes 2.0 (ASM), Man in Love (ASM). Angela Park (Script Production Assistant) is a first-year BA theatre major. This is her first UC San Diego production.

Brady Sugrue (Assistant Director) is a first year undergraduate theatre major. UC San Diego credits: working as a production assistant in Big Fish (Muir Musical). She also worked as a director at Standing Ovations Theatre Company (2017-2020), and has worked as a SFX makeup artist for Enigma Films (2020). In highschool, she also gained experience acting, directing, and working in makeup for various productions.
