Application Information for the PhD Program


Here is the the information that you need to upload. After you finish determining what you need to upload, you should move on to step three - applying to the University of California.


Materials that must be uploaded by January 6, 2021 include:

  • Two samples of critical writing (minimum 15 pages), one of which deals with an aspect of drama or theatre. Upload at http://apply.grad.ucsd.edu.
  • Official transcripts or official copies of academic records from all post-secondary institutions attended. Upload at https://gradapply.ucsd.edu.
  • A minimum of three letters of recommendation (Waiver of Access to Letters of Recommendation and Letter of Recommendation Form at http://apply.grad.ucsd.edu.). Preference is for online letters of recommendation. For the online letter of recommendation process, you must provide the email address of each recommender.
  • Statement of purpose, Upload at http://apply.grad.ucsd.edu..

These materials should be uploaded at http://apply.grad.ucsd.edu. or sent to the following address:

You must also take the GRE.


After a review of all application materials, a personal or telephone interview may be arranged.
