MFA Dance Thesis I:
THE UNDERGROUND                                            Tickets

a dance performance directed by Marcos Duran

Show dates:  Jan. 23, 24 & 25 @ 7:30pm

Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre

About the Performance

Director and performer Marcos Duran embraces an experimental attitude toward the making of physical theatre in this journey through The Underground. Inspired by a surrealistic novel in collage by Max Ernst, Une Semaine De Bonté ou Les Sept Éléments Capitaux (A Week of Kindness or The Seven Deadly Elements), the bizarre, interwoven narratives of Haruki Murakami's novels, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World and Kafka on the Shore, and Jean Renoir's 1939 cinematic French social satire La Règle du Jeu (The Rules of the Game), this performance will seek to create worlds within worlds of physical and emotional expression.

About the Director

Marcos Duran is a second-year MFA Dance student. From 2012-2017, he directed, choreographed, and performed in the Brooklyn-based Marcos Duran Performance Group. He has been invited to share work in New York City venues such as Movement Research at The Judson Church, La MaMa Experimental Theater, 92nd St Y, Dixon Place, and Center For Performance Research. In addition to sharing his work throughout California, Marcos is a 2013-2017 Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Artist in Residence at Center for Performance Research. He holds a BFA in Dance from UC Santa Barbara, Pilates Apparatus/Mat certifications, and is an ongoing student practitioner of CranioSacral Therapy.
