Shattered Dreams (and where we put them)

May 7-16 | Theodore and Adele Shank Theatre

Written by Mack Lawrence | Directed by Kieran Becca

About the Show

Five teens are putting on a show, an elaborate PSA sponsored by their high school where they’ll recreate a deadly car crash designed to scare away fellow students from drinking and driving. Between theatre games, fake-blood logistics, and a Grim Reaper costume, the teens begin to deal with their secrets and the truth of one fateful night. SHATTERED DREAMS (and where we put them) is an exploration of growing up and the stories we tell about our past and future selves.

About the Playwright

Mack Lawrence (they/them) is an interdisciplinary performance artist, playwright, and dancer from Austin, TX. As a trans playwright and a sixth-generation Austinite, their work traverses foundationally queer stories with a distinctly southern voice—using humor and queer normalcy as a way to challenge and provoke the way trans stories are told.

Mack has been a part of MOtiVE Brooklyn’s For the Artist! Residency program. Their project DINNER, a devised multimodal dance theater melodrama about a group of long-time queer friends coming together at a dinner party, was presented at The Brick Theater in Brooklyn, NY.

Additionally, Mack’s play Waco Boy Club, has been presented by Breaking & Entering Theater Company (Brooklyn, 2024) and will be a part of National Queer Theater’s 2026 season (New York). Mack performs with ARCOS Dance, most recently as a part of Ether Dust, a movement tour through rural West Texas. They received their BFA in Dance from UT Austin.
