About the Director

Erin Tracy is a dance theatre artist who creates work that explores violence, words, physical challenge, and precision. She has created original dance theatre in New York City and Tampa for Catch! Performance Series, Little Theatre, Fertile Ground, Movement Research, Four Days of Dance, Gasparilla Arts Festival, FEAST, FIVE by FIVE, and Florida Dance Festival. She has performed at such venues in New York as PS 122, The Ontological Theatre at St Marks Church, BAX, Galapagos, and Dixon Place. She received her BFA from New York University’s Experimental Theatre Wing where she won the award for Outstanding Achievement.

Additionally, she has trained with SITI Company, Chicago-based performance group Goat Island, Movement Research, and Dance New Amsterdam. Erin is the Artistic Director of Spec Performance, a dance theatre company with a performance series dedicated to the development of new work. She was the recipient of a 2013 Individual Artist Grant from Hillsborough County for her evening-length dance theatre work Verbo. Recently, she was selected to participate in GenYes! an arts incubator program subsidized by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. She was also named Best Local Choreographer in Creative Loafing’s 2013 Best of the Bay Awards.

Director's Statement

Though It May Shift is a dance and theatre work constructed of interwoven solos, simultaneous actions, and chance meetings. The piece is built collaboratively with a team of playwrights, musicians, and performers as it explores the coinciding intimacy and duality of solo structures in performance. The work makes space for the prismatic quality of identity while embracing its inconsistencies, aberrations, and incongruities. Though It May Shift investigates the intrinsic tension between the contrasting forces in language and movement, linear and nonlinear, simultaneous and singular. Ultimately, it posits that our perception of one another and what we actually know is perpetually building, one upon the other, to create fragments and suppositions that construct our relationships.
