|About the Play
The last in his Vietnam War trilogy that began with The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and Sticks and Bones, David Rabe's Streamers focuses on the interactions and personal conflicts of a group of soldiers preparing to ship out to fight in the Southeast Asian conflict in 1965. Among them are middle class African American Roger, upper class Manhattanite Richie, who is struggling with his sexual orientation, conservative Wisconsin country boy Billy, and fearful loose cannon Carlyle, a streetwise black. In charge of their barracks are abrasive alcoholic Sgt. Cokes, who already has served overseas, and aggressive Sgt. Rooney, who is anxious to get into combat. (wikipedia.com)

David Rabe is an American playwright and screenwriter. He won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1972 for Sticks and Bones, and also received Tony award nominations for Best Play in 1974 for In the Boom Boom Room, 1977 for Streamers, and 1985 for Hurlyburly. (wikipedia.com)
|About the Director
Prior to moving to San Diego to teach acting and directing at UCSD, Kim Rubinstein was Long Wharf Theatre’s Associate Artistic Director where she directed Guys and Dolls, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Private Lives, Santaland Diaries and The Cocktail Hour. Kim and her gorgeous cast and designers were nominated and won a bunch of awards for her 2015 production of O’Neill’s Anna Christie at Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in LA; her Odyssey production of A Taste of Honey won 2016 Best Revival for Bitter Lemons Awards. Other recent directing credits include True West in the Desert and True West in A Loft in Hollywood Hills, Venus in Fur at San Diego Rep (co-directed with Sam Woodhouse), Savannah Disputation and The American Plan for The Old Globe; Balm in Gilead, Three Sisters, HotL Baltimore, 1001 and Sexual Selection: Shakespeare and Darwin Ponder Love for UCSD at La Jolla Playhouse; The Intelligent Design of Jenny Chow for Portland Center Stage and San Jose Repertory Theatre, and Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo and Juliet for Shakespeare Santa Cruz. She was honored with a Falstaff nomination for her directing of Romeo and Juliet. Other directing credits: Old Times (Court Theatre), Romeo and Juliet, MacBeth and Julius Caesar (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre), The American Plan and Eloise and Ray (Roadworks Productions), Pan and Boone (Running With Scissors), Love’s Labour’s Lost (Next Theatre), Not I (Buckets o’Beckett Festival), Act without Words I, Not I, Play, Come and Go, Baby With the Bathwater and Sarita (Berkshire Theatre Festival). Kim was the Associate Director of the national tour of Angels in America.
Other acting/directing teaching credits: ten years at Northwestern University, Brown/Trinity Consortium, Wesleyan University, Yale University, University of Chicago, Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Teatro degli Stracci, and an ongoing summer gig with the School at Steppenwolf and Steppenwolf Classes West, working with actors in an immersive, intensive month of ensemble-oriented training.
Ms. Rubinstein is a recipient of the TCG/NEA directing fellowship and was nominated for the Alan Schneider Directing Award. Through the Graduate Division, Kim has developed and led Talking Research for graduate students and post-docs which includes theory and practice from her system of training the Creative Mind using theatre techniques merged with current research on neuroscience and creativity.

Parking Passes Required: Monday through Friday. Weeknight passes are $2 per vehicle from the vending machines located in the UC San Diego Theatre District/La Jolla Playhouse parking lots and entry display case. Please remember your parking space number. You will need it to purchase your parking pass.
Note: Machines take all major credit cards except Discover and when paying with cash you must use exact change, NO CHANGE GIVEN.

Cars without permits are subject to ticketing by UCSD Campus Police. The Theatre & Dance Department does not have the authority to waive and cannot pay parking tickets.
