About the Play

About the Playwright

When a 1920s film star and amateur magician suddenly finds himself ripped from his own time in order to perform in front of a modern audience, he soon begins to realize that his very perceptions of reality are not so clearly defined. In a show that invites the audience to actively participate in its creation, An Evening with Will & The Witch challenges the boundaries between spectator and performer for a unique theatrical experience where no two performances will ever be the same.

Will Given is a writer and photographer currently working on his PhD in the Department of Theatre & Dance at UC San Diego where he is researching how illusionists created hyperreal performative identities utilizing the new mediums of photography and film during the belle époque in Paris. He has a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) from UC San Diego in English Literature and studied screenwriting and producing at UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film, & Television. As a screenwriter, he has been named a semifinalist in the Austin Film Festival, a Top 5% Finalist for the Warner Bros. Writer’s Workshops, and is currently serving as a screenwriting judge for the Austin Film Festival.

Will has written for Genii magazine and holds the rank of A.I.M.C. in The Magic Circle in London, and is a Magician Member of The Magic Castle
