About the Director

Sean Graney is a Chicago-based theater artist who passionately cares about the audience. For over twenty years, he has concentrated on adapting and directing stories to create relevant theatrical pieces for our contemporary society. In November of 2014, after a three-year hiatus, he returned to being the Artistic Director of The Hypocrites, a Chicago theater company he founded in 1997. In 2013, he was a Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University where he completed writing All Our Tragic, a twelve-hour adaptation combining all thirty-two surviving Greek Tragedies. It garnered six Joseph Jefferson Awards, including best Director and Best Adaptation. He has four other Joesph Jefferson Awards for directing and adaptation. He is also the director and co-adaptor three Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, which have been playing at many great theaters across the country. In 2013, he was honored with the Helen Coburn Meier and Tim Meier Arts Achievement Award. From 2004-2006, he was a participant in the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Directors. He attended Emerson College (a long time ago) and has taught at University of Chicago, The Theater School at DePaul University, Columbia College Chicago and Lake Forest College. Previously at UC San Diego, he directed Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again. by Alice Birch.

Director's Statement

2020 is a presidential election year. What better way to celebrate our right to vote by looking at all the men we chose to occupy the highest office of our land. Created by the Neo-Futurists in Chicago, this huge-cast, fast-paced, hysterical, informational cabaret races to show a few minute summary of each U.S. President in those glorious 231 years. A look at the standouts like Abe Lincoln and FDR, as well as a look at the losers like William H. Harrison (in office for only about 750 hours), or James Buchanan, considered by many to be the worst President (he set our Nation's path toward the Civil War!) Plus all the other Presidents from Washington to Trump. Come see your favorite, come see your most loathed, come see them all!
