JUDITH SHARP A dance faculty member since 1984, Ms. Sharp trained and performed with the original San Diego Ballet under the direction of Nancy Johnson and Richard Carter, and later, Sonia Arova and Thor Sutowski. She went on to receive a degree in ballet from Indiana University School of Music in 1976. Sharp has taught and/or choreographed for many southern California studios including San Diego Ballet, Ballet Society of San Diego, and UC Irvine. In 1988, she CO-founded San Diego Dance Designs as a vehicle for choreographic pursuits. This small performance group presented several programs of original works, often sponsoring other artists, utilizing local grants through 1991. Active in the dance community, Sharp has served on the boards of the San Diego Area Dance Alliance and the National Society for Arts and Letters National Dance Committee. Currently the Ballet Mistress for the California Ballet Company where she has four ballets in the repertory, she also teaches for the preprofessional division of the California Ballet School. In November of 1996, she received first place in the ballet category and grand prize in the Second Annual International Dance Competition held in Tijuana, Mexico for her trio Allergro, set to music by Dmitri Shostakovich. |
