Biography

ALISON DIETTERLE SMITH (BA Anthropology, UCSD, MFA in Dance, UCI) Alison is a performer, choreographer, teacher, and videographer. Her work has been presented at UC Irvine, UC San Diego, San Diego State University, Palomar College, Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater’s site-specific Trolley Dances, Sushi Performance and Visual Arts, The 10th Ave Theater, Frederick Lowe Theater (NYU), Constanta Opera House (Romania), and CECUT (Mexico). Alison’s videodance Dress-Up created through her solo company chiasmadance.com screened at the 2004 Dance Camera West Festival in Los Angeles and the UCI International Dance Film Festival. Alison has trained with Nancy Mittleman-Merkens, the San Francisco Ballet School, on full-scholarship at the Pacific Northwest Ballet School (WA), on scholarship at the José Limón Institute in New York, and with Anna Halprin through a UCSD professional development grant. Alison has worked with the Eugene Ballet Company (OR), Ballet Pacifica (CA), Lisa Naugle, Allyson Green, Joe Alter, Yolande Snaith, and extensively with Jean Isaacs’ San Diego Dance Theater. Alison is also a certified Yoga Instructor from the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA. Her on-going yoga practice, world travels, and investigations into the language of the body, inform her work, classes, and her passion for movement.
