Biography

Alison Urban is a second-year PhD student. She holds a B.A.Honors in Drama in Education & Community from University of Windsor and a M.A. in Drama with a specialization in Theatre for Social Action from University of Alberta. Prior to studying at UC San Diego, Alison was the Associate Director of Education & Outreach at La Jolla Playhouse working with schools to bring drama based cross-curricular arts integration into classrooms. Areas of interest include theatre with youth at-risk, Theatre of the Oppressed, cultural memory, and informal education. Based on her 9 years as an educator at the San Diego Zoo, Alison is focusing her research on theatre in museum spaces. Career highlights include joker training with Augusto Boal, handling endangered species, and learning to drive a double-decker bus!
