The Last Tiger in Haiti by UC San Diego-trained playwright Jeff Augustin has been selected as part of La Jolla Playhouse's upcoming theatre season. The play will be directed by fellow UC San Diego alumnus, Joshua Kahan Brody.

Workshopped in La Jolla Playhouse's DNA series last year, The Last Tiger in Haiti is set in Haiti, the place of Augustin's own family heritage. The story centers on a group of restaveks (or child slaves) struggling to survive in the earthquake-rattled country and dreaming of freedom.

Augustin was already a rising star even before he completed his degree in the Department of Theatre & Dance. Brody, likewise, has been making a name for himself as co-founder of the locally-based troupe The Trip.

The Department of Theatre and Dance is incredibly proud of these talented alumni.
