Assistant-Associate Professor of Sound Design – UC San Diego

THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE at UC San Diego invites applications for a theater artist in Sound Design, beginning July 1, 2018. The academic appointment for this position will be for a tenure-track Assistant Professor OR tenured Associate Professor depending upon the candidate’s experiences and accomplishments. The successful applicant will serve as a core member of a professional design training program and is expected to participate in all facets of the department life, including mentorship and supervision of MFA designers’ production work, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, recruitment, curricular planning within the design area, and participation in discussions of departmental production seasons. The appointee will be expected to bring continuing innovation to the teaching of sound design. In order to advance in the professorial series, the candidate must continually and effectively engage in research and/or creative activity of high quality and significance.

Required Qualifications:
MFA or equivalent professional experience in sound design; a history of productions at the national level; evidence of teaching potential or experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses such as Intro-Advanced Sound Design, Sound Systems Design, and Digital Audio Processing. The ideal candidate will have strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity. The preferred candidate will have expertise in any of the following areas: music composition, audio engineering, cultural origins of sound, interactive performance technologies for sound design, contemporary practices in dance sonification. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications based on University of California pay scales.

Assistant Professor of Theatre History/Dramatic Literature

THE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE at UC San Diego (http://theatre.ucsd.edu ) invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Theatre History/Dramatic Literature to complement the strengths of the current PhD faculty. The successful candidate will join a PhD area committed to excellent research and teaching alongside an MFA program committed to intensive practical training. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching focus on Latinx dramatic literature, history and theory. Candidate will be expected to teach established required courses and develop new courses. Ability to conduct and continue original research and publish books and articles in scholarly journals and/or critical anthologies in the fields of drama, theatre, and/or performance studies is essential.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a PhD and have demonstrated intersectional and cross-disciplinary interests in areas such as critical gender studies, critical race studies, disability studies and/or queer theory. Candidates should be qualified to teach lower and upper-division undergraduate courses as well as PhD seminars, showing both a breadth of knowledge in theater history and expertise in one’s area of focus. Candidates should also demonstrate excellence in scholarship. Some evidence of teaching experience is required. The preferred candidate will have strong demonstrated accomplishments or plans in areas contributing to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and a desire to play a role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity. This tenure track position begins July 1, 2018.

Assistant Teaching Professor (Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment) –
Stage Management

The DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE at UC SAN DIEGO seeks an experienced professional to teach stage management beginning July 1, 2018. The academic title for this position will be Assistant Teaching Professor (also termed Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment). This faculty series, which is unique to the University of California system, carries full membership in the academic senate with rights and responsibilities and is a security of employment-track position. The successful candidate will be expected to provide active mentoring to graduate and undergraduate students during all phases of production, and the ability to teach a wide range of classes, ranging from the fundamentals of stage management to advanced topics.

Required Qualifications:
- A member of the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA);
- A minimum of five years of professional stage management experience;
- A diverse stage management background that consists of Broadway, LORT, Off-Broadway, and touring.

Preferred Qualifications:
- MFA in Stage Management;
- Previous experience in higher education;

Candidate will also serve as a mentor to students in and out of production and contribute in all areas of leadership within the area, i.e. recruitment, evaluation, casting, and advising.

Required Qualifications: Must possess a MFA or PhD; extensive experience as a movement instructor and/or coach or director in the professional arena; certification and/or experience in various movement disciplines such as LeCoq, Laban, Feldenkrais, Mask Work, Improvisation, Physical Theatre, Mime, Juggling, Acrobatics, and Circus Techniques.

Preferred Qualifications: University and/ or conservatory teaching experience. Background in developing a comprehensive movement curriculum is highly desired. The ideal candidate will have strong demonstrated accomplishments or plans in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.

TEMPORARY LECTURER

THEATRE & DANCE DEPARTMENT, University of California, San Diego

The Division of Arts & Humanities, at UC San Diego, is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body.

We are seeking applicants for temporary lecturer position(s) in theatre or dance disciplines. Appointment(s) may be part-time, full-time, quarterly or annual, with the possibility of renewal contingent on performance and funding availability. Positions available for upcoming quarters.

Candidates are required to possess an MFA, PhD, or equivalent professional experience. Candidates will also have at least two years of teaching experience or specialized field expertise to teach the course, with experience teaching the exact theatre or dance discipline.
