The Theatre MajorThe theatre major provides students with a solid artistic and academic background. The required lower-division courses equip the student with the skills and knowledge necessary for more advanced study in each of the areas of study. The major is structured so that it can respond both to the needs of students who seek a broad-based "liberal arts" education in theatre or to the needs of students who plan to pursue their studies at the graduate level with the aim of acquiring either an M.F.A. or Ph.D. degree. Students should meet with the department's undergraduate adviser as soon as practical (but no later than the quarter in which they declare a theatre major) in order to plan an appropriate individual course of study. At least 50 percent of all required course work in theatre must be taken at UCSD. Units of theatre practicum (THPR or TDPR), or their equivalent, completed elsewhere do not normally satisfy the theatre department's requirements. All required courses must be taken for a letter grade. No course for which a student earns a grade lower than C- can be counted as satisfying any of the department's graduation requirements. Transfer student requirements are the academic year two years prior to their first quarter at UCSD. Performance and Production
