Jesca Prudencio is a director, choreographer, and community based artist. She has directed new plays, musicals, and dance theater works with companies including The Movement Theatre Company, Fresh Ground Pepper, Ping Chong + Company, and the Asian American Arts Alliance at venues like Joe’s Pub, 3LD, FringeNYC, University Settlement, and The Old Vic in London as part of the TS Eliot US/UK Exchange. Her site-specific dance pieces include We Walk, We Stop and Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing in NYC, and America! at UC San Diego.
As a member of Ping Chong + Company, she has worked as a writer, director, and facilitator on a dozen interdisciplinary and documentary theater projects, and including co-writing and directing Listen To Me: voices of survivors of child sexual abuse and those who help them presented in the Bronx and Manhattan. She directed and choreographed a new musical The Firebird at NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Jesca recently directed Campo Maldito by UC San Diego MFA playwright Bennett Fisher, which premiered here
at the 2014 Wagner Theater Festival. This UC San Diego production toured to the NY International Fringe Festival and the San Francisco Fringe with sold-out houses, a NYTimes Fringe pick, and Best of the SF Fringe Award. Jesca has a BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and is the artistic director of People of Interest, a theater company dedicated to producing engaging work that provides a voice for the voiceless and addresses contemporary social issues.
