Dina Apple is a performer, improviser, creative collaborator, and dance maker who creates art in order to engage her curiosities about the world, herself, and other humans. She has performed and created dances throughout the United State, Europe, and Mexico with Leslie Seiters/little known dance theater, collaborative dance theater LIVE, somebodies dance theatre, Wallpaper Performance Co., Lux Boreal Danza Contemporanea, Funkanometry SD, Garage Contemporary Ballet, and SDSU’s University Dance Company, as well as in works by Eric Geiger, Kyle Sorensen, Karen Schaffman, Jess Humphrey, and Ash Eliza Smith, among others.
In 2011, Dina co-founded Odd & Even (O&E), a collaborative ensemble that practices and performs group improvisation, searching for “what else is possible?” when artists of various disciplines interact. Comprised of dancers, musicians, and theater artists, O&E investigates movement, sound, and text in ways that blur the boundaries of each. Through her work with O&E, Dina has taken interest in the specificity of space and place, asking how the conditions for performance affect audience/performer interaction.
Dina earned a BFA in Dance from San Diego State University and is currently a candidate for the MFA in Dance Theatre at the University of California, San Diego.
